In this context, the PM10 and PM2.5 data published by ISPRA under the UNECE Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution Convention are examined.An initial screening shows that the most significant contribution is due to the combustion plants of the non-INDUSTRIAL sector (commercial and institutional, residential, agriculture), which also shows the largest increase compared to 1990 (over 200%). At the European level, the trend is similar.Given this, one wonders whether the authors of the study cited are quite certain that the &#8220;22,000 cases of premature death in 2010, equivalent to 240,000 years of lost life&#8221; are to blame &#8220;to pollution from coal-fired power plants&#8221;.
