China, green turn pushes coal

Genoa. China’s green turn is helping the coal supply chain. The paradox also favours shipping that finally, at least in the re-etas, sees a rise after the collapse that has been going on for some time.
The government’s extensive emissions reduction programme has led to a massive cut in coal production in China. Already in 2016 a cut of 300 million tonnes had been decided, then only partially applied. Now, as analysts including JP Morgan point out, the halt to production has also been confirmed for 2017: the 150 million tonnes, half of last year’s sharp reduction.
